The Njuja ( Russian Нюя ; Yakutian Ньүүйэ ) is a 798 kilometer long left tributary of the Lena in Western Siberia ( Russia , Asia ).
course
The Njuja rises about 450 m to the west of the Lena Plateau in Eastern Siberia . The source is located in the far west of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) , the territory of which the river flows through its entire length, in the immediate vicinity of the border with Irkutsk Oblast . The Njuja flows through the plateau in a predominantly easterly direction, from the middle reaches about parallel to the Lena, mostly meandering in wide arches in a narrow valley in parts . Finally, the river flows into the Lena below the village named after her, Njuja, at a height of 150 m .
The main tributaries are Tympichan, Chamaky, Ulachan-Murbajy, Otschtschugui-Murbajy and Bechentscha (also called Betintsche), all from the left.
Hydrography
The catchment area of the Njuja covers 38,100 km². Near the mouth, the river is almost 200 meters wide and up to 3 meters deep; the flow velocity here is 0.4 m / s.
The njuja freezes from the second half of October to May. The water flow at Kurum, 132 kilometers above the river mouth, averages 114 m³ / s with a minimum of 7.4 m³ / s in March and a maximum of 760 m³ / s in May.
Infrastructure
The Njuja is navigable for 146 kilometers from above the confluence of the Betschintscha at the village of the same name.
From the middle reaches several villages on the banks of the Njuja, such as Orto-Nachara, Tschamtscha and Bechentscha. At the Njuja settlement, the road crosses the river from the city of Lensk, 20 kilometers south on the left bank of the Lena, to the West Yakut diamond mining areas around Mirny and Udatschny .
