Noppadon Sangnil ( Thai นพ ดล แสง นิล ; born July 9, 1977 in Bangkok ; nickname saxophone ), internationally mostly written Noppadol Sangnil , is a Thai snooker player . In the 2000s he played two seasons as a professional on the Snooker Main Tour .
Career
Noppadon Sangnil started playing snooker at the age of 13 and was one of the most promising young players. In 1996 and 1997 he was the Thai U-21 champion. At the U-21 World Cup he reached the round of 16. Three years later he was in the quarterfinals of the amateur world championship . In 2000 he was in the final of the Asian Cup and lost to Marlon Manalo .
The Filipino did not take the chance to participate in the professional snooker tour , but Sangnil went to England and played his first professional season in 2001/02 . However, there were almost only defeats in the beginning. The only tournament that stood out was the China Open . There he won against Gary Ponting and Patrick Wallace, among others, and reached the round of the last 48. Against the number 20 in the world rankings Dominic Dale , however, he then missed the entry into the main tournament. But this one result was not enough to keep the professional status.
He stayed in England and tried to qualify again via the Challenge Tour , but was unsuccessful in the next two years. Then he gave up his ambitions for the time being. As an amateur, he took part in the 2007 Southeast Asian Games for Thailand and won the silver medal in singles and gold with the team.
It wasn't until 2008/09 that he started again. The Challenge Tour had meanwhile been replaced by the Pontin's International Open Series with eight tournaments and in the first tournament he reached the round of 16. In tournament 2 he was in the final and only just lost 5-6 against Xiao Guodong . He reached the round of 16 once more and overall he collected so many points that he took 7th place in the PIOS ranking and thus won a place on the Main Tour. In his second professional season in 2009/10 he again achieved his best result in China, this time at the Shanghai Masters . He defeated James Wattana and David Roe and came under the last 64. But then he lost the other opening games and the victory over Michael White at the World Cup did not save his professional status. Among the 96 professionals, he finished 84th at the end of the season. Then he ended his professional career at the age of 32.
Back in Thailand, he won the national championship title in 2010. Thereupon he entered again internationally in the amateur world championship in the same year . He reached the semi-finals, which he lost 5-7 against his compatriot Dechawat Poomjaeng . This then also won the title.
