Grave of Abbot Norbert Stoffels

Wolfram Stoffels, who grew up in Krefeld, entered the Benedictine monastery Neresheim in 1955, made his profession in 1956 and accepted the religious name Norbert. After studying theology in Neresheim and Beuron, he was ordained a priest on August 20, 1961 by Carl Joseph Leiprecht , Bishop of Rottenburg , in the abbey church . 1970, his abbot named him John Kraus the Prior of the abbey. On August 23, 1977 he was elected abbot by the monastery convent. On September 8, 1977, he received by Georg Moser the benediction . In 2006 he was re-elected for a last possible term of 6 years after reaching the age limit for abbots of the Benedictines of 70 years. It ended on February 21, 2012.

During his tenure as abbot, essential parts of the monastery complex such as the prelature, the monastery hospice and the convent building were renovated. In addition, Stoffels collaborated on the translation and new edition of the Rule of Benedict . After his death at the end of 2014, it was announced that he had left behind a fortune of around EUR 4.4 million, which the convention knew nothing about and which should largely come from a money laundering system called "Weinberg". After a few trials, the money is available to the monastery for the further renovation of the farm buildings.
