The North-West Cup is an annual chess tournament in Bad Zwischenahn . The 22nd North-West Cup took place in January 2020, with the Dutchman Erik van den Doel winning the tournament for the second time . The North-West Cup is one of the largest weekend tournaments in Europe.

The North-West Cup is divided into three smaller tournaments: the A-Open with the greatest number of players, the B-Open and the C-Open with the least number of players. The pairings are drawn according to the Swiss system ; a total of seven rounds are played.

history

The tournament was held in Oldenburg for the first time in 1999. The Turin later changed the venue and has since taken place in the Wandelhalle on the Zwischenahner Meer . In 2016, a new record was set with a total of 342 participants.
