The Norderaue is a double-ended ferry operated by the Wyker steamship shipping company Föhr-Amrum .

history

The ship was built under the construction number S.578 at the Neptun shipyard in Rostock - Warnemünde . The construction contract was signed on October 26, 2016. The keel was laid on December 16, 2016.

The delivery of the ship was agreed for the end of February 2018. In the meantime, the completion of the ship was assumed by the end of 2017. Due to the utilization of the Neptun shipyard, there were delays in construction. The ship was finally delivered to the Wyker Dampfschiffs-Reederei Föhr-Amrum on April 19, 2018. It has been in use on the Föhr-Amrum line since May 4, 2018 and replaced the Rungholt . On June 8, 2018, the ship was christened in Wyk auf Föhr . Godmother was Heike Tholund, wife of the inspection manager of the Wyker steamship shipping company.

The ship is named after the Norderaue , a mudflat in the North Frisian Wadden Sea between the mainland, Föhr and Amrum , on which the ship operates.

description

The ship is a modified replica of the Schleswig-Holstein delivered in 2011 . With the same dimensions, the ship has a larger vehicle capacity. The continuous ro-ro deck has been changed so that four trucks can be placed next to each other. The gauge for cars is 350 meters and for trucks 280 meters. At both ends of the ship there is a visor that can be folded up in the harbor and passed by vehicles. The ro-ro deck is built over a large part of the length of the ship. The saloon deck with the facilities for the passengers is located in the deck structure above the ro-ro deck . Above the saloon deck there are open sundecks and amidships further superstructures with the bridge deck , which is constructed so that the ship can travel in both directions.

The drive is diesel-mechanical . The ship is equipped with four Caterpillar - diesel engines of the type 3508C, each with 578  kW power equipped, the four Voith-Schneider propeller drive. The ship reaches a speed of 12  knots . Three diesel generator sets powered by Caterpillar C7.1 ACERT diesel engines are available for power generation.

The ship is built according to the standards RAL-UZ 141 ( Blue Angel “Environmentally friendly ship design”) and RAL-UZ 110 (Blue Angel “Environmentally friendly ship operation”).
