The Schleswig-Holstein is a double-ended ferry operated by the Wyker Dampfschiffs-Reederei Föhr-Amrum (WDR).
history
The Schleswig-Holstein was built in 2011 at the Neptun shipyard in Rostock . The keel was laid on May 2, 2011 and the handover on December 1, 2011 in Rostock. The christening took place on December 30, 2011 in Wyk . Since December 20, 2011 it has been connecting the mainland port of Dagebüll with Wyk on Föhr and Wittdün on Amrum . It is the shipping company's 29th new building since 1885.
With the commissioning of the new Schleswig-Holstein , the WDR ferries Uthlande and Insel Amrum were shut down or sold.
particularities
The Schleswig-Holstein from the outside with her sister ship Uthlande almost identical, only the inner region, some changes were made.
The embarkation and disembarkation of passengers on Schleswig-Holstein and Uthlande no longer takes place via the vehicle deck, but via barrier-free pedestrian ramps that have been in operation since the end of August 2012.
The previous time-consuming turning in the harbor basin should be omitted in the future, but this cannot be achieved at least when driving across all three ports and back. As with its sister ship Uthlande V , the capacity of the new Schleswig-Holstein has increased compared to the previous WDR ferries.
Since the end of 2011 there has been a ship's mailbox on the ferry again , which is emptied twice a week. The shipments receive an oval stamp "DEUTSCHE SCHIFFSPOST" of the ferry connection (Dagebüll – Föhr – Amrum).
The ship received the "Blue Angel" for environmentally friendly ship operation.
