The ferry was built in 1980 as the second modified replica of the Schleswig-Holstein II built in 1972 at the Husum shipyard in Husum . The launch took place on February 1, 1980 . The ship's godmother was Ella Haase, namesake of the Uthlande region, which is partially sunk in the North Sea and off the mainland . The completion of the ship took place in April, the test drive on April 15th of the same year. It has linked the islands of Föhr and Amrum with the mainland port of Dagebüll since it was commissioned . In February and March 1986, the ship was extended by 9.9 m at the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg . This enabled the capacity of the ship to be increased.
On June 15, 2010, the Uthlande was replaced by a new building of the same name and initially decommissioned. In the 2011 season she got back on the road because her sister ship Schleswig-Holstein (built in 1988) had been sold to a Dutch shipping company at an early stage. The Uthlande was replaced shortly afterwards by the new Schleswig-Holstein .
Whereabouts
In March 2013 the ship was sold to the Neue Pellwormer Dampfschiffahrtsgesellschaft , which resold it to the Faros Shipping Company (SARL) in Beirut in September of the same year . The ship, renamed Just Mariam , was initially brought under the Lebanese flag temporarily . The ferry was prepared for the ferry to Lebanon in spring 2014 at the Husum shipyard. In January 2014, the ship was brought under the Togolese flag and shortly afterwards transferred to the company Alastair Shipping / Bakri G, represented by the Faros Shipping Company. The ship was used by Med Dream Shipping as a Med Dream under the flag of Bolivia and operated in the eastern Mediterranean between Lebanese and Turkish ports.
At the end of 2018 / beginning of 2019, the ship was renamed Lady Caroline and brought under the Syrian flag . In May or June 2019, the ship was left to its own devices in the port of Latakia . The crew from Egypt , India , Syria and Turkey had not received any wages for a long time . The Indian seafarers were able to return to their homeland with the help of the ITF organization .
particularities
Uthlande
The Uthlande is visually different from the sister ships Schleswig-Holstein (built in 1972, sold 1987), North Friesland (built in 1978, sold in 1995), Schleswig-Holstein (built in 1988, sold in 2011), Rungholt (built in 1992) and North Friesland (built in 1995) by a ten centimeter wide, yellow stripe, which is located directly under the rub rail (wall rail) on the otherwise completely black painted hull above the waterline.
At the request of the first captain, Johann Quedens, who oversaw the construction and drove the ship from 1980 to 1999, this stripe was already painted on during the construction phase. The characteristic stripe was retained for a long time at the request of Captain Wolfgang Brandt. However, it was removed during the shipyard period in winter 2009/2010.
