Nostalgie (formerly Radio Nostalgie ) is a private French radio station belonging to the NRJ group , which was founded in 1983 by Pierre Alberti in Lyon and mainly plays music from the 1960s to 1980s .

history

Pierre Alberti founded Radio Nostalgie in 1983 from the money he had earned by selling his radio station, Radio Contact , which he had founded a few years earlier . Many presenters and journalists switch with him from Radio Contact to Radio Nostalgia.

From 1985 onwards, Alberti expanded its reception area and reached Paris in 1986 . In 1989 the station was 51% owned by Radio Monte Carlo , while Alberti shared the remaining 49% with other shareholders. At that time, Radio Nostalgie achieved a 5% market share among French listeners and, compared to the start of broadcasting, had a significantly younger audience. At the same time, nostalgia begins to broadcast his program abroad and is now broadcasting to Belgium , Moscow and Portugal . The station later expanded its transmission range to include Eastern Europe , the Balearic Islands , America and, after 2000, parts of Africa.

By broadcasting more up-to-date music and hiring well-known moderators such as Pierre Bellemare , Georges Beller , Lio and Pierre Galibert , Nostalgie tried to rejuvenate its audience in 1997. As a result of these measures, however, the market share is falling.

2001 Radio Monte Carlo and Radio Nostalgie are bought by the NRJ Group . Since the radio supervisory board Conseil supérieur de l'audiovisuel (CSA) approved the purchase, there were strong protests from local, independent radio stations, as NRJ now has a monopoly position throughout France with Chérie FM , Rire et Chansons and Nostalgie . The CSA then curtailed the transmission area of some of the smaller stations belonging to NRJ.

Since NRJ already has a station for the so-called “ young old ” with Chérie FM , the target group of nostalgia is being pushed back a lot. From 2001 onwards, the station focused more on the music of the 1960s and 1970s and dismissed many of the moderators as more music should be played. Although the targeted audience is only 6% of French radio listeners, nostalgia soon reaches 8%.

Today, nostalgia is broadcast on VHF in all of France's major cities and in some rural areas . All programs are produced in Paris , whereby the advertising broadcast, the weather report and announcements on which frequencies nostalgia can be received in the respective city differ from region to region.
