On the eastern tip of the island, the municipality of Pointe-du-Moulin was founded in 1958, but it merged with Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot in 1984. In 2004 the municipality received city status. The city has been a member of the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal community association since 2000 .
