Novelists FR is a metalcore - band from Paris . The band was founded in 2013 under the name Novelists . For legal reasons, the band added the letters FR to their name in summer 2019 .
history
Novelists was founded in 2013 by the brothers Amael and Florestan Durand. They were soon joined by Matteo Gelsomino, Nicolas Delestrade and Charles-Henri Teule. The Durand brothers played together in some bands before, while the rest of the members played in the band A Call to Sincerity . The band members decided to self-publish some singles before attempting a record deal to increase their awareness. Starting with Twenty Years in April 2013, six singles were released by April 2014. The band then made the plan to release an album. To make these plans a reality, the group entered into a contract with management company The Artery Foundation Management . In November 2014, Novelists made their first European tour with I the Breather and Shoot the Girl First .
In July 2015, the band announced that they had signed a deal with Arising Empire . The debut album Souvenirs was released in November 2015. A US tour planned for the same year, as opening act for I the Breather, was canceled due to visa problems. From January 2016 the band cooperated with the music agency Avocado Booking . Two tours followed. In April with For Today and Silent Planet and in October with Breakdown of Sanity and Dream On, Dreamer . In June 2017, novelists released the single The Light, The Fire . The release accompanied the tour with While She Sleeps and Northlane . One month after the release, the band announced their contract with SharpTone Records , as well as the release date of their second studio album Noir , which was set for September 2017 .
The third studio album C'est La Vie was released in January 2020. In April 2020, the band announced the departure of the singer Matteo Gelsomino and announced that they were looking for a new singer.
style
Mostly Novelist FR is discussed as a progressive metalcore or Djent band. Occasionally, comparisons are made to genre representatives such as Periphery , Monuments and Heart of a Coward . Usually for the djent, the group plays with a five-string bass and seven-string guitar.
The music is characterized by “rhythm changes with fine guitar runs” and recurring melodies in the guitar play without “losing the aggressiveness”. Vincent Grundke describes the music for Metal Hammer magazine as a “harmonious sound conglomerate of hyper-fast Djent and Progressive Metal guitars with a hardcore vibe - especially when screaming.” The singing varies between roaring , growling and clear singing. The guitar playing, on the other hand, is considered rhythmic, groovy , progressive and technical.
