Nucșoara is a municipality in Argeș County in Great Wallachia in Romania .
Geographical location
The municipality of Nucșoara is located in the southwest of the Iezer-Păpușa Mountains, a mountain range of the Southern Carpathians ( Carpații Meridionali ), in the valley of the Doamnei River ( Râul Doamnei ). In the north of the Argeş district, the place Nucşoara is about two kilometers west of the county road ( Drum județean ) DJ 731, about 40 kilometers (23 km as the crow flies) northeast of Curtea de Argeş ; the district capital Piteşti is about 79 kilometers south of Nucşoara.
history
The place Nucșoara was first mentioned in 1547. The area of the municipality was owned by noble families, who gave it to the monasteries of Argeș and Brădetu .
With the beginning of the unrest in the 18th century - the peasant uprising of 1784 - many Romanian serfs fled from the outskirts of Transylvania to Wallachia and settled here in Nucşoara, where they also adopted the customs of the local population at an early stage.
The village formerly Secături ( dt. Dryness or hollow head ), 2.5 kilometers southwest of the municipality seat , was renamed Gruiu in 1965 . In the area of this village, landslides like the one in December 2010 can be noticed again and again.

The 2002 census counted 1720 inhabitants in the area of the municipality.
The main occupations of the population are sheep farming , forestry and wood processing .
Attractions
- Lake Învârtita (Lacul Învârtita), created in the gypsum floor in the 19th century , has an area of 2.2 hectares and is about five meters deep.
- The Orthodox Church Intrarea în Biserică , built in 1890, as well as the stone crosses in the garden of Maria Banu (built in 1729) and the one next to the doctor's office (built in 1760) are listed as historical monuments.
