Corbi (outdated Corbii de Piatra [in German stone ravens ]) is a Romanian community in the Argeş district in Great Wallachia .
Geographical location
In the foothills of the Iezer-Păpușa Mountains, a mountain range of the Southern Carpathians ( Carpații Meridionali ), in the valley of the Doamnei - a left tributary of the Argeș -, the place is on the district road ( Drum județean ) DJ 731. The town of Curtea de Argeș ( Argish ) is to the southwest; the small town of Câmpulung ( Langenau ) to the east, each about 30 kilometers; the district capital Piteşti is about 55 kilometers south of Corbi.
history
The place Corbi was first mentioned in 1456 in the historical region of Wallachia ( Țara Românească ), in a Slavic document in Târgovişte .
After the founding of the Romanian principalities of Wallachia and Moldova , serfs , especially from the outskirts of Transylvania , were settled as free residents in the Muntenia region ("mountainous country") in the 15th and 16th centuries . When the unrest began in the 18th century - the peasant uprising of 1784 - many Romanian serfs flee from Transylvania to Wallachia. So a part of the population from the place Jina (Eng. Sinna or Schinna ) - in today's Sibiu district - settled here in Corbi. In contrast to other places in the region, the settlers here in Corbi met a local community in decline and so they were able to assert themselves with their customs and traditions, and have maintained them to this day.
population
The 2002 census counted 4,395 inhabitants in the area of the municipality. 4392 of them described themselves as Romanians , two as Roma and one as Italian .
The main occupation of the population is livestock (mainly sheep) and fruit growing . Of the approximately 5600 hectares of the community area, about 400 hectares are used for agriculture.
