After a snow storm, a car is discovered on the edge of a lonely mountain road near a small, remote village. There is no trace of the driver. The police don't know where to start their investigation.

The film is based on the detective novel Seules les bêtes by Colin Niel from 2017. Directed by Dominik Moll , who, together with Gilles Marchand, also adapted Niel's novel for the film.

The Center national de la cinématographie funded the script development with 66,000 euros, the Franco-German funding commission granted production funding of 480,000 euros, the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg to the amount of 150,000 euros and Eurimages to 371,000 euros. The film received further funding from the Région Occitanie Pyrénées Méditerranée

Denis Ménochet , Damien Bonnard , Laure Calamy and Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi can be seen in the leading roles .

The shooting took place from January 10 to March 22, 2019 in Sète and Florac in the French region of Occitania and in Abidjan , the former capital of the Ivory Coast . Patrick Ghiringhelli acted as cameraman .

The film was first shown on August 28, 2019 at the Venice International Film Festival , where it was shown as the opening film of the Venice Days section. In addition, the film will be shown in the main festival competition. At the beginning of October 2019 it was presented at the London Film Festival and at the beginning of November 2019 at the Minsk International Film Festival “Listapad”.
