List of grape varieties

The white variety Nuragus is an autochthonous variety from the island of Sardinia . The name is derived from the nuraghe , the early historical tower buildings of the Bonnanaro culture on the island. Presumably the nuragus vine was imported by the Phoenicians .

The cultivation of the variety is recommended all over Sardinia. It is very common in the province of Cagliari . There the wine made from it finds its way into the DOC wine Nuragus di Cagliari . It can also be found frequently in the provinces of Sassari and Nuoro . In 1999 a planted vineyard area of 8,667 hectares was raised.

The late-ripening variety is moderately vigorous and regularly delivers high yields. As a rule, the Nuragus vine produces simple, low-acid white wines of moderate quality. Top winemakers like Antonio Argiolas, however, show the full potential of the variety.
