Extraction and presentation
O , O -dimethylchlorothiophosphate can be obtained by reacting phosphorus pentasulfide and methanol followed by reacting the resulting dimethylphosphorodithioate with chlorine .

O , O -Dimethylchlorothiophosphate is a flammable, hardly inflammable, moisture-sensitive, colorless liquid with a pungent odor, which is very sparingly soluble in water and slowly decomposes in it.

O , O -Dimethylchlorothiophosphate is used as an intermediate for insecticides (e.g. methyl parathion , temephos and fenitrothion ).
