history

The first known documentary mention comes from January 7th, 777. A deed of donation from Charlemagne to the Fulda monastery is dated to this day , in which the place "Achynebach" is named.

Since Obereschenbach originally belonged to the Hundsfeld parish , the church, which was completed in 1901, also contains wooden figures of the former Hundsfeld community that were moved there around 1960. A restoration of figures (including a representation of Kosmas and Damian ) and the church took place after Ottmar Straßer from the Franciscan monastery in the old town near Hammelburg took over the pastoral care of the community of Obereschenbach in 1973.

On July 1, 1970, Untereschenbach was incorporated into Obereschenbach. Obereschenbach became a district of Hammelburg on April 1, 1972 as part of the municipal reform.
