The Milan trolleybus has existed since October 28, 1933 and is operated by the local transport company Azienda Trasporti Milanesi (ATM). The network was expanded particularly in the 1960s, it reached a maximum length of 88 kilometers and led to the neighboring municipality of Bresso , it was served by line 83. Between 1975 and 1985, many lines were then converted to bus operation. In December 2010, the Piazzale Loreto ↔ Lambrate FS section of line 93 was switched to diesel bus operation. Today four lines still operate, the network length is 40.4 kilometers. As a special feature, lines 90 and 91 together form a ring line :

  • 90: Circular traffic clockwise
  • 91: Circular traffic counterclockwise
  • 92: viale Isonzo ↔ Bovisa FN
  • 93: viale Omero ↔ Lambrate FS

Today's fleet of vehicles comprises 141 vehicles, 116 of which are articulated . They are housed in the two depots Molise and Novara. A voltage of 550 to 600 volts direct current is used for driving .
