history
Oberndorf was first mentioned in a document on May 18, 876, in a document that was signed by King Ludwig the German on that day during a stay in the Pfalz Ingelheim. With this document he settled a dispute between the Fulda monastery and the abbot of Mainz over the tithe in various parts of his domain. The dispute also affected numerous settlements in Thuringia, most of which use this document as evidence of their first documentary mention.
The place belonged to the Ernestine Office Dornburg founded in the 14th century . From 1815 the place was part of the Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach , which incorporated it into the Roßla office and in 1850 the Weimar II administrative district ( Apolda administrative district ). Since 1920 Oberndorf belonged to the state of Thuringia and after 1945 it became part of the Soviet occupation zone and the GDR . Since 1990 the place belongs to the newly founded state of Thuringia.
