Obernkirchen sculpture symposium

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Obernkirchen Sculpture Symposium first took place in 1988 in Obernkirchen , a small town in Lower Saxony , and has been continued every three years since 1997. During the 5th Sculptor Symposium, in addition to the Sculptor Symposium Obernkirchen, an interactive creation of a work of art took place, whereby a sketch is created by an artist on the Internet and artists on site implement this idea in stone and consult and discuss during the execution.

The stone sculptures from the symposia, as far as they remained in Obernkirchen, are now set up on a four-kilometer sculpture path near Obernkirchen.

Sculpture Symposium Obernkirchen

For the sculptor symposia in Obernkirchen, sculptors are selected from the incoming applications who create sculptures from local Obernkirchen sandstone on the historic church square in Obernkirchen .

Interest in this art form is great, according to the organizer, 14,000 visitors came to the church square in 2006 and took the opportunity to watch artists doing their creative work or to discuss with them. The symposia in Obernkirchen are organized by an association that is supported by sponsors.

Interactive sculpture symposium

During the 5th Obernkirchen Sculpture Symposium in 2003 a new idea was developed, the development of a sculpture over the Internet. Artists plan and draw a work of art, and an executive sculptor converts the drawing into natural stone . The artists communicate via the Internet and the development and result of the work of art is published worldwide. The American sculptor Michael Re from Schaumburg from Illinois developed an internet sketch that the sculptor Klaus Vieregge executed on the church square in Obernkirchen. The Japanese sculptor Isamu Fujimoto from the Asago Art Museum drew a sketch on the Internet that the sculptor Pascal Schmidt made. The partners of this internet sculpture symposium were the Internationale Obernkirchener Sculptor Symposion e. V. and the Asago Art Museum in Japan.

During the 6th International Obernkirchen Sculptor Symposium in 2006, the 2nd Interactive Sculptor Symposium took place, the Japanese artist Isamu Fujimoto made sketches on the Internet, which the sculptor Fried Schange from Telgte in Germany implemented on the church square in Obernkirchener Sandstein .
