Oberurseler Stadtwald and Stierstädter Heide is the name of a protected area in Oberursel (Taunus) . Due to the occurrence of the rare bat species Myotis bechsteini (Bechstein's bat ), as well as the dry European heath habitat , which is unique in the Vordertaunus , the area is protected as a fauna-flora-habitat area within the framework of the Natura 2000 network .

description

Most of the area is in the Oberursel district , with a small part in the south belonging to Steinbach . The northern part is to be assigned to the natural area Hoher Taunus , the southern part is in the natural area Kronberger Taunusfuß . Most of the area is publicly owned, only small parts are privately owned. The forest office in Königstein im Taunus is responsible for maintaining the protected area . Most of the area consists of Quaternary sediments , there are Pleistocene gravels and sands and Holocene solifluction blankets . Parts of the area are used as branches and as a recreational area.

The Stierstädter Heide, 3.2 hectares in size, has existed since the Middle Ages. The residents of the time cut down the area and used the humus to fertilize their fields. This created the barren soil on which heather grows very well.

The largest habitat type in the protected area is the beech forest . Like the Dry European Heath type , it is in a good state of preservation . On the other hand, the areas that can be assigned to the species-rich montane bristle grass lawns and the alder-ash forests are in poor condition .

As a particularly sensitive nature which is Bechstein's bat in excellent expression to find, but also many other species of bats are found. In the area of the heather there are several types of lizards as well as the little heather hopper . The common heather and the wire Schmiele also grow on it .

protection

aims

The aim of protection is to preserve the beech forest, the heath and the Bechstein bat population. In addition, the condition of the grass turf and the alder-ash forest should be improved.

For 2024, an improvement or stagnation to a good conservation status is forecast for all habitat types. However, the Bechstein bat is expected to deteriorate from an excellent to a good conservation status.

Thrush and aging are threats to the plant population; The bat species can be endangered by too light old wood, closed rejuvenation , too light crown closure as well as by the federal highway 455 running through the area .

activities

Various measures have been taken to protect the area. The stock of old oaks and - book shall also in view of the resulting dead wood, are obtained while the coniferous forests by removing the spruce and pine to mixed deciduous forests are to be reshaped. To preserve the summer roosts for bats, cave trees are to be secured and semi-open areas preserved. The installation of bat boxes is also planned.

The heather should be cleared and rejuvenated regularly. This is done four times a year in autumn and winter by the Schutzgemeinschaft Deutscher Wald , Oberursel section. The humus layer is also regularly removed.
