Ohmes is a village and part of the municipality of Antrifttal in the Vogelsbergkreis in central Hesse .

history

middle Ages

The oldest surviving mention of the village can be found in a document from 1238 as "Omeza". It takes its name from the “Omena” water that rises below the village.

A local noble family. the Lords of Ohmes died out in the 13th century. In 1240 a third of the village came to the Hersfeld Abbey . The rest was part of the goat grove court Katzenberg based in Ruhlkirchen. In its eventful history, the village as part of the Katzenberg court belonged to various lords - the Teutonic Order , Hans von Dörnberg , the Landgraves of Hesse and the ore monastery of Mainz .

Early modern age

The Peasant Wars and the Thirty Years' War brought not only robbery, looting, rape and abuse but also manifold destruction. In 1580 the parish had 40 houses, but in 1630 only 33.

Modern times

Early 19th century the village went with the entire court Katzenberg as a result of Reichsdeputationshauptschluss conclusion of Kurmainzer ownership of Kurhessen over. With the peace treaty between the Kingdom of Prussia and the Grand Duchy of Hesse on September 3, 1866, following the war of 1866 , the villages of the "Katzenberg District" came to the Grand Duchy. At that time, the law of the Electorate of Hesse applied in Ohmes. This retained as a particular law its validity even while the membership of the Grand Duchy of Hesse from 1866. This particular law was 1 January 1900 by the same across the whole German Reich current Civil Code replaced.

At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, Pastor Williges Kraiger had a church with a sacristy built by J. Bensheimer from Dieburg. It was consecrated in 1903 "To the Holy Family of Nazareth" (secondary patron: Williges) and cost 35,277 marks.

As part of the regional reform in Hesse , the five municipalities of Bernsburg, Ohmes, Ruhlkirchen, Seibelsdorf and Vockenrod merged on December 31, 1971 to form the new large municipality of Antrifttal.
