Vockenrod is a district of the municipality of Antrifttal in the Vogelsberg district in Central Hesse .

history

Middle Ages and early modern times

Vockenrod was probably founded in the 12th century together with the Hermannshain hereditary farm. The oldest surviving written mention dates from 1263.

In 1283 it was part of the goat grove court Katzenberg with its seat in Ruhlkirchen . At the end of the 14th century, Vockenrod and Hermannshain were destroyed in a dispute between the Landgraviate of Hesse and the Archdiocese of Mainz and only settled again after more than 100 years. As part of the Katzenberg court, the village was subordinate to various lords, the Teutonic Order , Hans von Dörnberg , the Landgrave of Hesse and the Archdiocese of Mainz .

The Peasant Wars and the Thirty Years' War brought not only robbery, looting, rape and abuse but also manifold destruction. In 1580, the community had twenty houses, but in 1630 only twelve.

Modern times

At the beginning of the 19th century, the village with the entire court of Katzenberg passed from Kurmainzer property to Kurhessen as a result of the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss . With the peace treaty between the Kingdom of Prussia and the Grand Duchy of Hesse on September 3, 1866, following the war of 1866 , the villages of the "Katzenberg District" fell to the Grand Duchy. In Vockenrod, Hessian law was valid at that time. This retained its validity even while it belonged to the Grand Duchy of Hesse from 1866. On January 1, 1900, it was replaced by the civil code that was uniformly applicable throughout the German Empire .

As part of the regional reform in Hesse , the five municipalities of Bernsburg, Ohmes, Ruhlkirchen, Seibelsdorf and Vockenrod merged on December 31, 1971 to form the new large municipality of Antrifttal.

church

Church in Vockenrod

Today's church was only built in 1908 under the direction of the Mainz architect Greifzu (mostly by the citizens themselves) and consecrated to the "Most Holy Virgin Mary" and St. Boniface as a secondary patron. It cost 40,568 marks. Inside, it has Art Nouveau elements and a remarkable altar, including depictions from the life of St. Boniface.
