The steam locomotives of the class T 5.1 of the Oldenburg State Railroad were tank locomotives for use in passenger train service. They were designed on the model of the Prussian T 5.1 . Like their Prussian sisters, they had a rough run at higher speeds. For this reason, constructive changes were made to the drive during the course of delivery, such as the extension of the overall axle base. But even these measures were unsuccessful. The Hanomag company produced a total of 20 copies of the Oldenburg T 5.1 in the years 1907–1921.

In 1925 the Deutsche Reichsbahn took over all 20 locomotives as the 71.4 series and gave them the numbers 71 401 to 71 420. They were retired by 1930.
