Oleksandr Fedorowytsch Vosianow (born October 2, 1938 in Melitopol , Ukrainian SSR ; † May 7, 2018 ) was a Ukrainian doctor, President of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine and a member of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine .

Life

Oleksandr Vosianow was born in 1938 in the city of Melitopol, then part of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, now part of Zaporizhia Oblast . From 1962 he studied at the Medical Institute O.O. Bohomolets in Kiev . He then served as a surgeon in the Soviet Northern Fleet until 1966 . In 1966 he began as an assistant professor at the Kiev Medical Institute, where he rose to extraordinary professor (1980) and head of the Department of Urology . Since 1987 he headed the Institute of Urology and Nephrology of the Institute (now the Institute of Urology of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine). He was also a permanent member of the international, European and American urologist associations.

Oleksandr Wosianow, who has been a doctor of medicine since 1978, regularly attended international scientific conferences on urology and nephrology in Europe and America and has published more than 600 scientific papers, including 55 monographs and 19 inventions. His research focus was the development of functional methods of diagnosis and surgical treatment of the most important urological diseases and the promotion of basic and applied medicine. His work on the problems of prostate and bladder diseases was widely recognized.

Wosianow founded a urology college with more than 40 doctors and doctors. Many of his students are professors and heads of scientific institutions. He was a co-founder of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, founded in 1993, and was appointed its first president and organizer of the academy. Under his leadership, the academy developed into an internationally renowned scientific institution. He has also been a member of the New York Academy of Sciences since 1996, of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and the Polish Medical Academy since 1997, of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Belarus since 1998 and of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences since 2001. The American Biographical Institute (USA) declared him "Man of the Year" in 1997.

He spoke Ukrainian, Russian, English and Greek.
