Oleksiy Iwanowytsch Petscherow ( Ukrainian Олексій Іванович Печеров ; English transcription: Oleksiy Ivanovich Pecherov * 8. December 1985 in Donetsk , USSR , Soviet Union ) is a Ukrainian basketball player , among other things, in the doped highest professional league NBA played and in various top divisions in Europe. Petscherow celebrated his greatest successes so far with the BK Kiev in his home country, with whom he was Ukrainian champion in 2005 and cup winner in 2007.

Career as a player

Oleksiy Pecherov started playing basketball at the age of 15. First he played for Polytechnic Kharkiv. Here he stood out and was appointed to the junior team of Ukraine for the 2004 U-20 European Championship. He was used in all games and achieved an average of 12 points. This was followed by a move to BK Kiev , with whom he became Ukrainian champion in 2005. At the beginning of the 2005/2006 season, Petscherow went abroad for Paris Basket Racing . He was drafted in 18th position by the Washington Wizards in 2006 , but stayed in Ukraine for another year due to a valid contract. Because of an injury sustained in the preseason Petscherow came only in January 2008 to his debut in the NBA. After two seasons Petscherow moved from Wizards to Minnesota Timberwolves as part of a player swap. After a year in Minnesota, he moved back to Europe in 2010 to play with Olimpia Milano in the Italian championship and the Euroleague . After a year in Italy, he returned to the Ukraine for Azovmash Mariupol for the 2011/12 season. In addition to the Ukrainian championship, where twice the runner-up championship (2012, 2013) succeeded, he played with Azovmash in the ULEB Eurocup and in the VTB United League . Here he was named the best Ukrainian player in the 2012/13 season. The following season he had a one-month contract with the Spanish first division club from Valencia in the ACB league , which was not extended. In January 2014, Petscherow then the closed Euro Challenge 2012/13 winners Krasnye Krylia in Russian Samara on.

National team

Oleksij Petscherow took part in the 2005 and 2011 European Championships with the Ukrainian national basketball team. However, it was not enough for the top ranks in both tournaments.
