Oleksandr Wiktorowytsch Bilanenko ( Ukrainian Олександр Вікторович Біланенко ; born January 8, 1978 in Sumy , Ukrainian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a former Ukrainian biathlete .
Career
Oleksandr Bilanenko has been involved in biathlon since 1990 . He is a sports soldier and is trained by Jurij Dmytrenko and M. Serdyuk. He has been a member of the Ukrainian national biathlon team since 1999. In the same year he made his debut in the Biathlon World Cup at an individual in Hochfilzen (60th) . In 2004 in a pursuit in Östersund , he achieved his best result so far in a single race.
In 2002 in Salt Lake City , 2006 in Turin and 2010 in Vancouver , Oleksandr Bilanenko took part in the Winter Olympics. He achieved his best results in 2002 and 2006 with seventh rank of the relay, while in individual disciplines it was only enough for lower ranks. In 2010 his best result was 22nd place in the individual. With the relay, he finished eighth.
Between 2000 and 2013 he took part in all biathlon world championships . In addition to the team silver medal in 2011, the most successful for him were the title fights in 2004 in Oberhof , where he successfully competed in the individual (8th), the sprint (9th), the mass start (9th) and the relay (7th). At the end of the 2004/2005 season, he was one of the top 20 biathletes. In his prime, he won a total of 5 medals at the Winter Universiades 2003 and 2005, including a complete set in 2005. At the Biathlon European Championships between 2001 and 2008 he was successful with one title in the individual and three silver medals in the relay (2002, 2005 and 2006).
In terms of the number of medals, Bilanenko was most successful at the World and European Championships in summer biathlon , where he received a total of 5 gold and 6 silver medals throughout his career.
Oleksandr Bilanenko was one of the most accurate athletes in biathlon. His hit rate was regularly well over 85%. For the 2007/2008 season he was second in the list of the best shooters. Weak runner shape prevented most of the front positions.

Oleksandr Bilanenko is married with two sons and lives in Sumy.
