The Olfe ( water code number [GWK] : 3212) is an orographically right tributary to the Werse in North Rhine-Westphalia . Over a total length of 7.8 km, it has a gradient of around 35 meters. It rises in the Hinteler peasantry in the town of Beckum , is piped under a field for around 300 m shortly after its source and after another 500 m it reaches the city limits of Ahlen . The first half of its course flows through agricultural land and wooded areas, the second half to the confluence in the town through Ahlen. In this section it is often accompanied by footpaths, the B 58 follows the entire course of the stream at a short distance. More than a fifth of its catchment area of 12.8 km² is built on.
The lime-rich subsoil of the Beckum Mountains , on the edge of which it rises, causes frequent dryness of the upper, in dry summers of the entire course. The only inflow besides a few ditches that carry drainage water is the Harntheisbach in the Rosendahl farmers' community .
After heavy rains, the Olfe takes the water from rain retention basins in some industrial areas in its vicinity. Because of the metal pollution that occurs in this way and the supply of phosphorus and other substances from agricultural fertilizers , the Olfe is assigned to water quality class III (heavily polluted).
