Olga Motta (* 10. February 1962 as Katrin Scholz in East Berlin ) is a German theater director , illustrator , stage and costume designer .

life and work

Olga Motta already worked as a set and costume designer in her hometown during her studies at the Art Academy Berlin-Weißensee , for example at the Volksbühne Berlin . Under the direction of Horst Hawemann , she decorated Lope de Vegas La dama boba there in 1988 . After completing his studies, he worked closely with the director Peter Konwitschny , including on Bizet's Carmen , Handel's Rinaldo and Beethoven's Fidelio . In addition, Motta often worked with Helmut Brade .

She worked at the theaters of Halle , Wuppertal , Nuremberg , Hanover, Graz, Freiburg, Basel and the Stuttgart State Theater - here in the opera as well as in ballet . Motta began directing in 2002. In 2004 she staged Such Wunder-Wercke at the Hanover State Opera ! , an opera pasticcio for the 350th birthday of Agostino Steffani . Her production of Mozart's Lucio Silla in 2006 was voted performance of the year in Hanover. She developed another version of this opera for the Stuttgart State Opera , which premiered there in November 2007. Her production Lucia di Lammermoor also premiered in October 2009 at the Stuttgart State Opera.

In 2014 Motta designed the stage and costumes for the opera Oscar and the Lady in Pink by Fabrice Bollon , for which she received several nominations as set designer of the year in the survey of the opera world .

Together with Barbara Mundel , she staged Jules Massenet's Cendrillion in Freiburg in 2017 . Also in 2017 she worked in Baden-Baden with Rudi Gaul Ayad Akhtars Geächtet and Bella Figura by Yasmina Reza as an outfitter. 2018 followed in Baden-Baden Before Sunset by Gerhart Hauptmann with the production by Rudi Gaul in Baden-Baden.

Olga Motta has been working on a large-scale auto-fictional art project for several years. With drawings, films (director: Rudi Gaul ) and installations, she goes in search of the lost biography of the Jewish writer Frida Baumgarten who was murdered by the Nazis . There is a fusion in various reflections and metamorphoses .
