The Oligoclada heliophila is one of the 24 dragonfly species of the genus Oligoclada from the subfamily Brachydiplacinae . The species is common in northwest Colombia and southeast Panama . Together with Oligoclada umbricola, it is the only Oligoclada species that occurs north of the Andes . The species was first described in 1931 by Donald Joyce Borror using an animal from the Río Frío in the Colombian department of Magdalena .

Construction of the Imago

The abdomen ( abdominal ) attaches Oligoclada heliophila -Männchen 16.0 to 19.1 millimeters. In females, it is slightly shorter at 15.1 to 17.1 millimeters. The abdomen of the females is light brown at the base and dark brown at the end. From the sixth segment the sides are black and from the ninth to the tenth segment the abdomen is completely black. The transparent hind wings measure between 20.7 and 24.5 millimeters in the males. The hind wings of the females are about the same size with 22.1 to 23.0 millimeters. There is a small dark spot at the base. The wing mark ( pterostigma ) reaches 1.9 to 2.4 millimeters in males and 2.0 to 2.3 millimeters in females. The number of anterior veins is eight and a half to ten and a half in the fore wing and six to eight in the hind wing. The last Antenodalader in the front wing is incomplete, so it does not extend from the Costalader to the Radiusader . Post-nodal veins exist seven to nine in both pairs of wings.
