Oliver Golding (born September 29, 1993 in Richmond ) is a retired British tennis player .

Career

Oliver Golding started playing tennis at the age of five and his favorite surface is the hard court . He mainly plays on the ITF Future Tour and has won five singles titles and nine doubles on it.

In 2010 Golding started singles and doubles at the Summer Youth Olympic Games . While he failed in the singles in the first round against the eventual winner Juan Sebastián Gómez from Colombia, he was able to win the gold medal in the doubles competition with his partner Jiří Veselý .

In 2011 Golding received a wildcard for the singles main draw at the AEGON Championships 2011 , where he lost to Nicolas Mahut in the first round . He celebrated his greatest success in 2011 by winning the junior competition at the US Open in 2011 . At the ATP Challenger AEGON GB Pro-Series Loughborough 2011 Golding again received a wildcard from the organizer. He was able to win the first round and clearly failed in the second round to Peter Torebko with 1: 6, 1: 6. Golding started in doubles with his partner Daniel Smethurst , but lost on the first lap. In the same year he was able to celebrate a total of four Future titles in doubles with changing partners.

In June 2012 Golding received a wildcard for the singles main draw at the AEGON Championships 2012 at the Queen's Club in London , where he failed in the first round against his compatriot Jamie Baker . Even with the wildcard for the single main field of the AEGON Trophy 2012 he failed in the first round in both singles and doubles. On the Future Tour in 2012 he won two titles, both in Great Britain and a double title in Belgium.

In 2013 Golding failed in the qualification for the Power Horse Cup 2013 in the first round. At the Internationaux de Tennis de Blois 2013 , he competed in doubles with his partner Alexander Ward in doubles, but failed in the first round. After he had qualified for the Aspria Tennis Cup 2013 , he failed in the main draw against the top seeded and eventual tournament winner Filippo Volandri . As a lucky loser, he reached the main field at the BRD Brașov Challenger 2013 , where he was eliminated in the second round. In 2013 he was still successful in singles and doubles at two future tournaments in Greece and Spain.

For the first time in his career, Golding was able to qualify for a Grand Slam tournament in 2014. He reached the second round with the wildcard to the Wimbledon Championships with a victory over Peter Gojowczyk , but had to admit defeat to the Swiss Marco Chiudinelli in three sets. He started in 2014 in some tournaments of the ATP Challenger Tour and ATP World Tour , but never got past the first round in the main field or failed in the qualification. On the Future Tour in 2014, he has won one title in singles and two in doubles.

In the summer of 2014 Golding decided to turn his back on tennis.
