Oliver Schwedes

Oliver Schwedes (born June 4, 1967 ) is a German mobility scientist and university professor at the TU Berlin .

Career

Schwedes studied political science , sociology , philosophy and psychology in Marburg , Berlin and Edinburgh from 1990 to 1998 . He graduated from the Free University of Berlin with a diploma in political science in 1997 , followed by a diploma in sociology in 1998. From 2000 to 2002, Schwedes completed his doctorate at the Humboldt University in Berlin on the subject of “The Development of Large Housing Estates. Power and decision-making processes in local politics using the example of urban housing policy " with Hartmut Häußermann for Dr. phil.

From 2002 to 2008, Schwedes was a research associate in the “Innovation and Organization” department at the Berlin Science Center for Social Research with a research focus on “Urban and Transport Policy and until 2005 head of the “Mobility in Competition” project funded by the Hans Böckler Foundation . From 2008 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Land and Sea Transport at the Technical University of Berlin . In 2014, Schwedes took over the management of the Integrated Transport Planning department.

Research priorities

Oliver Schweden's research focuses on integrated transport planning and policy as well as urban development planning and policy. Among other things, he led research projects, such as the DFG network “Spatial Mobility in the Second Modern Age. Freedom and coercion in choice of location and traffic behavior ” (2008–2011) or the BMBF research project Mobility Management . Possibilities and limits of transport policy design using the example of mobility management ” (2015–2017). Particularly in the field of electromobility , Oliver Schwedes led a large number of different research projects with a special focus on the user perspective. This included the project management of the policy analysis within the framework of the e-mobility project "ICT-based integration of electromobility in the grid systems of the future" (2009–2011), the management of the project " E3 - Combined Charging System: Development and demonstration of fast charging stations "(2013–2014) as well as leading the research project " Smart e-User: Concepts for electric drives in urban passenger traffic " (2013–2015).

The current projects under the direction of Oliver Schwedes can be found particularly in the field of mobility research, such as the DFG project "MobileInclusion: Mobility and Social Exclusion" (2018-2021) and " Mobile Report: Mobility Reporting in the Pankow District" (2017-2020) . Furthermore, since 2018 he has been head of the working group "Blockades on the Way to the City of the Future" of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation .

activities

Schwedes is the publisher of the “Handbook of Municipal Transport Planning” at VDE Verlag and the series “Mobility and Society” at LIT Verlag. As a course officer, he represents the Bachelor's degree in Transport at the Technical University of Berlin and regularly teaches on the topics of mobility research , local mobility and international transport planning .

Outside of his teaching activities, Oliver Schwedes is a member of the German Transport Science Society , the Federation of Democratic Scientists , the Association for Urban, Regional and State Planning and the Transport Club Germany . Furthermore, he expresses himself on current issues of transport policy in various print and TV formats.
