Olivier Charlier

Olivier Charlier (born February 17, 1961 in Albert (Somme) ) is a French violinist.

Charlier studied violin with Pierre Doukan and chamber music with Jean Hubeau at the Conservatoire de Paris . In the following years he won prizes at violin competitions in Munich and Montreal, at the Sibelius competition in Helsinki, the Jacques Thibaud competition, the Georges Enesco competition of SACEM and at the Young Concert Artists International Audition in New York in 1989 In 1986 he was a member of Anne Queffélec's piano trio (with cellist Yvan Chiffoleau ). He teaches violin at the Conservatoire de Paris.

As a soloist, Charlier has performed with international symphony orchestras such as the Orchester National de France , the Orchester de Paris , the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich , the London Philharmonic Orchestra , the BBC Philharmonic , the Hallé Orchestra , the Berlin Symphony Orchestra and the radio orchestras of Hamburg and Saarbrücken.

He made numerous recordings, including Henri Dutilleux 's violin concerto L'arbre des songes with the BBC Philharmonic under Yan Pascal Tortelier , Roberto Gerhard's violin concerto with the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Matthias Bamert , the violin concertos by Édouard Lalo and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy with the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra under Lawrence Foster , violin sonatas by Robert Schumann , Edvard Grieg and Ludwig van Beethoven with pianist Brigitte Engerer and violin sonatas by Camille Saint-Saëns , Claude Debussy , Gabriel Pierné and Louis Vierne with his former teacher Jean Hubeau.
