Existing records
- World record : 42.43 m - Jadwiga Wajs ( Poland ), Łódź , June 19, 1932
- Olympic record : 39.62 m - Halina Konopacka ( Poland ), Olympic final in Amsterdam , July 31, 1928
Conducting the competition
Because of the small number of starters, there was no qualifying round. All participants contested the final together on August 2nd.
final
Date: August 2, 1932
The discus throw was not a competition with technically mature performances. The Polish Jadwiga Vajsowna, who had set a new world record with 42.43 m in June , was only a shadow of herself and just won the bronze medal with 38.74 m, because the German Grete Heublein did not already have her before achievements shown and was fifth. Gold and silver surprisingly made the two Americans Ruth Osburn and Lillian Copeland between themselves. The test series can no longer be determined. It is known that Ruth Osburn took the lead with 40.12 m in the first attempt. Until the last round, the only 18-year-old Osburn maintained her top position. Not even half a year before the Games, she had picked up a disc for the first time, but she was already victorious in the US Olympic qualifications. With her last attempt, Copeland was able to counter and won the gold medal with a new Olympic record . Osburn and Copeland were the only female throwers who got more than forty yards.
