The men's 50 km walk at the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles was held on August 3, 1932. 15 athletes took part. Start and finish was the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum .
Since 1908 , walking competitions have been held over various distances. Only in 1928 in Amsterdam there was no walking discipline. Here in Los Angeles , sports goers could compete again. This time the 50 km route was introduced, which is an integral part of the Olympic program with the exception of 1976 until today.
First Olympic champion over the 50 km was the Briton Tommy Green ahead of the Latvian Jānis Daliņš . The Italian Ugo Frigerio , three-time Olympic champion in 1920 and 1924 , won the bronze medal.

- World best time: 4:30:22 h - Romano Vecchietti ( Italy ), Rome , September 16, 1928 - World records are not set in street walking because of the different track conditions.
- The discipline was on the Olympic program for the first time. That is why there was no Olympic record yet .
Conducting the competition
There were no preliminary decisions, the competitors all went to the final together.
The race
Date: August 3, 1932
In the brooding midday heat, the walkers were sent to the new Olympic distance of fifty kilometers. Everyone suffered a lot from the hardships and many athletes had to give up. The 39-year-old Brit Thomas Green became Olympic champion. The Latvian Jānis Daliņš reached the finish line a good seven minutes behind, bronze went to Ugo Frigerio from Italy, who dominated the walking distances at the Olympic Games in 1920 and 1924 . In 1928 , walking was temporarily removed from the Olympic program.
Jānis Daliņš won the first Olympic medal for Latvia.
