The sailing competition in the 49er at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London was dated 30 July to 8 August in the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy held. 40 athletes (20 crews) took part.

The competition was carried out in 16 regattas ( Fleet Race ). The first 15 races were completed by all starters. Points were awarded for the number of places. In the final bill, the worst placement was deleted. The ten sailors with the lowest number of points qualified for the medal race. The previous points have been retained, but the placement points for the medal race have been doubled.

The sailor in question received 21 points for false starts (OCS = on course side) and termination of the race (DNF). Even with disqualifications (DSQ) the starter got 21 points. In addition, the jury was able to distribute penalty points (DPI = Discretionary Penalty Imposed) during the race.
