On n'est pas couché (German: "We are not (yet) in bed") was a weekly talk show on French television lasting several hours , which has been hosted by Laurent Ruquier as a late night show since 2006 . It was produced in Paris until 2014 at the Moulin Rouge and occasionally broadcast live. As average attendance two million is specified, the audience in 2011 reached 20% often. In 2012, On n'est pas couché was described by Deutschlandradio as “currently the most striking example of vicious political satire and criticism on television in Europe”.

concept

A mixture of entertainment and political information was offered, promotion and criticism of new publications or productions by guests in the fields of literature, music or the performing arts were the main content alongside the debate on current political issues, usually with a politician as the “star guest”. In addition to the moderator, the role of the critics was taken on by two journalists, the "chroniclers", whose occasionally sharp polemics led to heated arguments with guests until they were demolished .

procedure

Podium before the show starts (2011).

On n'est pas couché began with the introduction and appearance of the guests, who took their places on the podium one after the other. Afterwards, the moderator introduced people in a humorous way in the form of stand-up who were particularly present in the media in the past week.

After a round of introductions, in which the moderator explained in more detail why the guests were invited, a debate was held with the “star guest”, who only appeared on the podium for the duration of this “cross-examination”. This was followed by the presentation of cartoons published in the press , each participant had selected a cartoon before the show and now commented on his choice.

One after the other, the guests took their places in the armchairs next to the moderator; they and their work were the focus for up to half an hour each. In between, the moderator briefly presented books, video clips , trailers or theater performances to the guests. Guess rounds were also inserted based on the name of a person who is currently making headlines and whose photo is shown, or the author of a quote.

In the first five seasons, comedians who imitate a real or fictional person and are interviewed by the presenter or perform a sketch appeared regularly .

occupation
