Ondauer mountain country
Ondavská vrchovina (German for "Ondauer Bergland") is a mountain range in eastern Slovakia named after the Ondava River .
Location and limitation
The Ondavská vrchovina extends from the Bardejov district through the Svidník and Stropkov districts to the northern parts of the Humenné and Vranov nad Topľou districts . It is part of the Lower Beskydy Mountains ( Nízke Beskydy ) and thus the Outer Eastern Carpathians .
The mountains are limited
- in the north from the Polish border and from the Busov massif ,
- in the east of Laborecká vrchovina ,
- in the south of the Beskydské predhorie ,
- to the west by the Ľubovnianska vrchovina and Čergov mountains .
character
The mountains are characterized by gentle, mostly wooded (with deciduous forest dominating) ridges that stretch from the main ridge of the Carpathian Mountains mainly in a southerly direction and form longer valleys (e.g. the Topľa and Ondava rivers ).
The highest elevations are the Stebnická Magura (900 m), Javorina (881 m), Smilniansky vrch (750 m), Filipovský vrch (705 m), Kačalová (676 m) and Čierna hora (667 m).
Attractions
The economic and tourist center of the region is Bardejov with its well-preserved medieval center. The spa town of Bardejovské Kúpele and the Zborov castle ruins are not far away . The Veľká Domaša reservoir is an important local recreation area in the south of the mountainous region .
