Onesimo Cadiz Gordoncillo

Onesimo Cadiz Gordoncillo (born February 16, 1935 in Jimalalud , † November 13, 2013 ) was Archbishop of Capiz , Philippines .

Life

Onesimo Cadiz Gordoncillo studied philosophy and theology at the Central Seminary in Manila (1954–1961) and was ordained a priest on March 18, 1961 . He taught at St. Joseph Seminary in Dumaguete City from 1961 to 1964. At the US Mankato State University he completed a postgraduate course (Guidance and Counseling) from 1964 to 1965 and was rector of the St. Joseph Seminar from 1966 to 1969. From 1969 he worked in pastoral care.

Pope Paul VI appointed him on March 14, 1974 auxiliary bishop in Dumaguete and titular bishop of Gunugus . The Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, Bruno Torpigliani , donated him the episcopal ordination on May 27 of the same year; Co- consecrators were Epifanio Surban Belmonte , Bishop of Dumaguete, and Antonio Yapsutco Fortich , Bishop of Bacolod .

On July 3, 1976, he was appointed Bishop of Tagbilaran . On June 18, 1986, he was appointed Archbishop of Capiz by Pope John Paul II , and on August 27, 1986, he was appointed to the office.

He was President of the CBCP Liturgy Commission for 11 years. He served on the presidium of the International Committee on English in the Liturgy in Washington, DC.

On November 9, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI. the resignation put forward by Onesimo Cadiz Gordoncillo for reasons of age.
