Onur Güntürkün
Onur Güntürkün (born July 18, 1958 in Izmir , Turkey ) is Professor of Biopsychology at the Ruhr University in Bochum .
Life and accomplishments
At the age of four, he developed polio . He was sent to his uncle in Germany for therapy. The therapy was only partially successful: he has been in a wheelchair since then , but can use arms and hands.
Güntürkün studied psychology at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum from 1975 to 1980 , graduated with a diploma and obtained his doctorate in 1984. After completing his doctorate, he was a postgraduate at the Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris and at the University of California, San Diego busy. In 1988 he was at the University of Konstanz research assistant and remained so until 1993. He habilitated in 1992. 1993 reached him, as one of the youngest professors in Germany, the reputation of the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Bochum. In 2006 Onur Güntürkün became a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina .
On November 27, 2013, Güntürkün was one of the representatives of Izmir at their nomination presentation for the Expo 2020 in Paris.

- 2015: Member of the North Rhine-Westphalia Academy of Sciences and the Arts
- 2016: In the summer semester 2016 holder of the 17th Johannes Gutenberg Endowed Professorship at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz .
