Communicator price

The Communicator Prize is a media prize for scientists from Germany that has been awarded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft since 2000 . The Communicator Prize is one of a total of five “Science Prizes of the Stifterverband”, which the Stifterverband funds for the major science organizations.

The prize is awarded to scientists who have made a name for themselves in communicating their work or scientific issues to the general public. The prize is endowed with 50,000 euros (as of 2019).

The Communicator Prize is only awarded for work that has been published in the German-speaking area and only upon application or recommendation. He is symbolized by one of the Cologne artist Michael Bleyenberg designed hologram , that the importance of transparency in science is supposed to represent. The hologram is individually made by the artist and contains motifs from the award winner's field of work.

A jury made up of communication scientists , journalists , PR experts and academics will decide on the award of the prize . The application and award guidelines are determined by the DFG.

For the 2020 call for tenders published on October 2, 2019, the DFG and the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft slightly changed the requirements and are now awarding "Researchers from all disciplines who have presented their scientific work and their subject to a broad audience in particularly innovative, Making diverse and effective ways accessible and thus engaging in the dialogue between science and society ".
