Open Canada Cup
The Open Canada Cup is a Canadian soccer competition based on the FA Cup and US Open Cup . It was held for the first time in 1998. The first winner was the Toronto Olympians , who are also record holders with 3 wins (1998-2000). The competition is open to all clubs from Canada. In fact, only Canadian Soccer League clubs and a few amateur clubs from Ontario participated until 2007 . With the Toronto Lynx, a team from the USL First Division , the second (US) American division, took part for the first time in 2006 . Teams from British Columbia have also been taking part since 2007 .
The Open Canada Cup was suspended in 2008 because the Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) is hosting a Canadian Championship for Canadian professional clubs. There are currently four professional clubs : Edmonton FC , Montreal Impact , Toronto FC and the Vancouver Whitecaps .
