action
In the late 1960s , at the height of the Cold War , CIA agents Matt Johnson and Owen Williams were smuggled onto NASA premises , where they posed as documentary filmmakers. Here they want to uncover a Russian mole undercover, which they believe wants to sabotage the Apollo program . Then, while wiretapping the phones, the two agents uncover a conspiracy far more shocking than the Soviet spy because the government is trying to keep a dark secret about the Apollo program and the White House is not afraid to do it, anyone to silence who discovered this secret. Johnson and Williams are in mortal danger. It seems like NASA cannot go to the moon at all, which would make the US lose the race against the Soviet Union. Therefore, Johnson and Williams propose to fake the moon landing in a film studio. They get their know-how from Stanley Kubrick , who is currently shooting the science fiction film 2001: A Space Odyssey . On the other hand, they call their own film project Operation Avalanche .

The filmmakers tell NASA officials that they wanted to make a student documentary when they showed up in contemporary clothing from the 1960s. So they got permission. Other scenes were made from old film material, taking advantage of the fair use regulations that exist for works protected by copyright.
