The orchestra INSO Lemberg (International New Symphony Orchestra Lemberg) was founded in 1998 by Gunhard Mattes , Myroslav Skoryk and Volodymyr Syvokhip. In 2010 the orchestra became the sponsor of the “Lviv Regional Philharmonic”.

The INSO Lemberg was founded in 1998 under the name "Festival Orchestra Lemberg". It was founded on the initiative of the Swiss conductor and oboist Gunhard Mattes, who had performed as a chamber musician at the Lviv music festival and had come into contact with professional musicians from Lviv. With the help of supporters from Switzerland, an orchestra was founded, the aim of which was primarily to promote young, talented musicians and to secure a permanent livelihood for them. The Lviv Chamber Orchestra led by Myroslav Skoryk served as the basis .

The first public concert took place on December 21, 1998 in the Lviv Philharmonic . In 1999, after several appearances, the first engagement took place at the Grand Hotel Dolder in Zurich. The foundation stone was laid for a circle of friends in Switzerland. Thanks to the financial support of a Swiss foundation, instruments have been purchased over the years. DAS INSO Lemberg, initially conceived as a musical humanitarian aid project, has developed over the years into a "distinguished symphony orchestra". The INSO Lemberg regularly undertook an annual international tour and played a. a. in Italy , France , Austria , Germany , Poland , Portugal and Spain . In 2005 the INSO Lemberg undertook a concert tour through several cities in China . In May 2006 the INSO Lemberg played the program “Mozart and Friends” in the Tonhalle Zurich under the conductor Gunhard Mattes . In May 2008, INSO Lemburg played concerts in Zurich, Olten and Bern in which the Norwegian trumpeter Tine Thing Helseth was engaged as a soloist. On the occasion of its 10th anniversary, INSO Lemberg gave a concert in October 2008 in the Tonhalle Zurich under the motto “10 Years of the INSO Lemberg Orchestra”.

The INSO Lviv appeared in various formations until 2009. After a farewell tour with concerts in the Tonhalle Zurich and the Culture and Congress Center Lucerne (KKL Lucerne) in May 2009, the orchestra was disbanded in mid-2009 due to financial problems. In June 2009 the INSO Lemberg played its last concert in the Tonhalle Wil.

In 2009 the Swiss filmmaker Gabriele Köstler-Kull made a documentary about the conductor Gunhard Mattes and the INSO Lemberg with the title “An orchestra dies”. The film premiered in October 2010 at the KIWI cinema in Winterthur .

In August 2012 the INSO Lemberg played the program "Hollywood Melodies" with music and music on a revival tour in Switzerland with performances at the Geneva Art Festival in Geneva and in Zurich (Schützenhaus Albisgütli). a. by Ennio Morricone , Nino Rota , Henry Mancini and Andrew Lloyd Webber .

With Gunhard Mattes as conductor, the INSO Lemberg recorded the soundtrack for the Swiss movie " Ricordare Anna " (2005; with Mathias Gnädinger in the leading role). In addition, several recordings with the INSO Lemberg have been released on CD . a. Piano concertos by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , Franz Xaver Mozart , Ludwig van Beethoven and Robert Schumann .
