Orenaia andereggialis is a butterfly from the family of Crambiden (Crambidae).

features

The moths reach a wingspan of 14 to 16 millimeters. The head and abdomen are blackish and speckled with white scales. The forewings are gray and speckled with different degrees of black, especially in the basal third. The transverse lines are whitish and usually indistinct. They are either not bordered at all or only bordered in black. The inner transverse line is serrated irregularly. The outer transverse line is curved on the cell , then curves to the inner wing edge and is provided with a tooth. The discal patch is very small, narrow and indistinct. The fringed scales are gray and drawn with a whitish line in the basal half. The hind wings are gray and have a darker fringe. The fringed scales are whitish and darker at the base. The hind wing undersides are gray and somewhat lighter than the forewing undersides. Both undersides are drawn with a whitish outer transverse line and a faint dark discal spot.

In the male, the clasper is only hinted at and has the shape of a weak bulge. The phallus is provided with an irregularly shaped group of around 15 small cornuti.

In females, the corpus bursae is flaccid and has two lens-shaped signs. The ductus bursae is also slack and very narrow at the confluence of the ductus seminalis. The antrum is cup-shaped and has a curved wrinkled stem.

Similar species

Orenaia other ggialis is smaller than Orenaia alpestralis . The first-named species has a more uniform gray color without a blue-gray tint. It lacks the sharp black markings and the conspicuous discal patch of O. alpestralis . The hind wings are paler and have a distinct border. The drawing on the underside of the hind wings is less contrasting.

distribution

Orenaia Andereggialis is native to the Alps (France from Savoy to the Alpes-Maritimes department , Switzerland, Italy and Austria). From the Pyrenees there is only one reliable proof ( Pic du Midi de Bigorre , Département Hautes-Pyrénées ). The species lives in the alpine zone between 2500 and 3000 meters altitude.

biology

The pre-imaginal stages are unknown. The moths fly from July to August. They are diurnal and fly close to the ground or rest on stones.

Systematics

The following synonyms are known from the literature:

  • without genus: Andereggialis Herrich-Schäffer , 1851
  • Hercyna Andereggialis Herrich-Schäffer , 1855
  • Orenaia rupestralis auct. ; Misidentification

Orenaia Andereggialis was originally known as Orenaia rupestralis ( Geyer , 1833). However, the figures show in the continuing work of Geyer Huebner proven orenaia alpestralis ( Fabricius , 1787). Orenaia rupestralis ( Geyer , 1833) is also a homonym of Orenaia alpestralis .
