Orianthi (born January 22, 1985 in Adelaide ; full name Orianthi Panagaris ) is an Australian guitarist of Greek descent.
Career
The Australian learned to play the guitar at the age of six, and at the age of 11 she switched from acoustic to electric guitar. In 2003 she was discovered by Carlos Santana at the age of 18 when she was allowed to play in a soundcheck by Santana. After that he even brought her on stage at the next gig.
This was followed by stage appearances with Prince and ZZ Top , among others, and she was part of the opening act on Steve Vai's 2007 world tour. In the same year she signed with Geffen Records and released her debut album Violet Journey . In the same year she appeared as the youngest guitarist at Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival .
Orianthi, who had since moved to the USA , had her international breakthrough in 2009 when she first accompanied Carrie Underwood at the presentation of the Grammy Awards and was then selected by Michael Jackson for his farewell concerts for the backing band. Since Jackson died before that, it never happened again; the Australian appeared at the memorial service and can be seen in the documentary Michael Jackson's This Is It .
Their increased popularity helped their second album Believe and the single According to You in November 2009 in the USA and Australia to success. In January 2010 she brought out her first signature model in collaboration with PRS Guitars : the Orianthi SE ; In 2011 she replaced the guitarist Damon Johnson in Alice Cooper's band for his No More Mr. Nice Guy tour.
Orianthi composed How do you sleep together with Cyril Niccolaï ( The Fairchilds ) . In August 2013 she performed with Alice Cooper at the Wacken Open Air , in March 2014 she was also on the Rock-meets-Classic tour.
She played with Alice Cooper on the Raise-the-dead tour until June 2014 . On December 22, 2014, she was inducted into the South Australian Music Hall of Fame .
