Orienteering World Championships 2016

The 33rd Orienteering World Championships are to take place from August 20-27 , 2016 in the area around Strömstad and Tanum in Sweden near the border with Norway.

Award

The international orienteering federation IOF decided in July 2012 on the awarding of the 2016 World Championships. The application deadline had previously expired in January 2012. It was considered likely that Sweden, who had lost to Scotland in the 2015 World Cup, would receive the promise for 2016. As expected, the IOF awarded the World Championships to Sweden in July 2012.

A planned forest world championship is being discussed for the 2016 World Championships, which should include the traditional World Championship program and which will alternate annually with an urban park world championship in the future.
