description

Ornithogalum geniculatum is a dwarf, single growing geophyte . Its spherical-egg-shaped bulbs have a diameter of up to 1 centimeter and are just as high. The white onion scales are fleshy. External scales are dry. The variable, succulent leaves appear with the flowers. The leaf blade of the elongated, lower leaves is 4 to 5 inches long and 2 inches wide. The leaves above are tubular and encompassing the stem, 3 centimeters long and 0.3 centimeters wide.

The paniculate, up to five-flowered inflorescence reaches a length of up to 15 centimeters. The sinewy flower shaft is bent like a knee at the base. The bracts are linear-pointed. The flowers are on 1 centimeter long peduncles . The white, linear-elliptical tepals are 10 millimeters long and 3 millimeters wide. The stamens are 5 millimeters long. Outer stamens are thread-like, inner ones egg-shaped. The ovary is ovoid, the pen upright and the scar capitately. The flowering time is spring.

The translucent, elongated egg-shaped fruits are 10 millimeters long and 10 millimeters wide. They contain flat, black seeds with a diameter of 1 millimeter.
