The West is the fourth largest of the seven villages in the independent city of Salzgitter in Lower Saxony .

The town west borders in the north on the town north , in the north-east on the town east , in the east on the town southeast , in the south on the town south and in the west on the district Wolfenbüttel with the municipality Baddeckestedt .

history

The village West was created together with the other six localities on January 1, 1972, in order to reduce the number of local councils to seven. Before that, all 29 districts that were part of Salzgitter at the time had their own local council. The first local election took place that same year.
