The village southeast is the second smallest of the seven localities of the independent city of Salzgitter in Lower Saxony .
geography
The village southeast borders in the north on the village east , in the east and southeast on the district Wolfenbüttel with the combined municipality Oderwald and the municipality Schladen-Werla , in the south on the district Goslar with the municipality Liebenburg , in the southwest on the village south and in the northwest to the village of West .

The village southeast was created together with the other six localities on January 1, 1972 to reduce the number of local councils to seven. Before that, all 29 districts that were part of Salzgitter at the time had their own local council. The first local election took place that same year.

Like all localities, the locality southeast has a local council, from whose ranks a local mayor is elected.

The local council consists of 19 councilors. According to the main statutes of the city of Salzgitter, this is the number specified for a town with less than 10,000 inhabitants. The current legislative period began on November 1, 2016 and ends on October 31, 2021. The local elections on September 11, 2016 resulted in the following distribution of seats (change from 2011):

The local mayor is Wolfgang Fisch (SPD). His deputies are Heinrich Oelmann (CDU) and Ralf Bosse (SPD).
