The village northwest is the third smallest of the seven localities in the independent city of Salzgitter in Lower Saxony .
geography
The village north-west borders in the north on the district of Peine with the municipality of Lengede , in the east on the village of north , in the southeast on the village of West , in the southwest on the district of Wolfenbüttel with the municipality of Baddeckestedt and in the northwest on the district of Hildesheim with the municipality of Söhlde .

The north-west village was created together with the other six localities on January 1, 1972, in order to reduce the number of local councils to seven. Before that, all 29 districts that were part of Salzgitter at the time had their own local council. The first local election took place that same year.
